Description
of Scholarship
One
$500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating
student from a high school in the attendance area of The
Lloydminster Bi-Provincial Chapter of ASET/SASTT. The graduate
will be continuing his/her formal education in an applied
science or engineering technician/technology program at a
post-secondary institute in Saskatchewan or Alberta. From
time-to-time as resources permit and at the discretion of the
chapter, additional scholarships may be awarded.
Purpose
This scholarship is intended
to financially assist a graduating high school student to
continue in his/her formal education in an applied science or
engineering technology field.
Eligibility
-
The
student must be a recent graduate of a high school in the
service area of the Lloydminster Bi-Provincial Chapter of
ASET/SASTT.
-
At
the time of the award the applicant must be enrolled in a
recognized applied science, or engineering
technician/technology program in Alberta or Saskatchewan (to
check eligible programs, see the ASET
or SASTT
websites).

The
student must declare their intent of becoming certified as a
C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist), an A.Sc.T.
(Applied Sciences Technologist) or C.Tech. (Certified
Technician) in the professional organization of the province
of his/her residency.

The
student must become a student member of ASET or SASTT.
Selection
Criteria
-
Academic
standing.
-
Participation
in extra-curricular activities (school/community) that
demonstrate leadership and citizenship qualities.
-
A
letter of application including an a description of
school/community involvement, grades and a short statement
(max 250 words) outlining career goals and reason of
interest in the chosen field of study. More information may
be included if you wish, but is not necessary.

A
letter of support from a teacher or administrator from the
graduate’s high school.
-
Other
information that the Chapter Scholarship Selection Committee
may deem to be relevant.
Application
Procedure
The applicant shall provide
the following for consideration of the selection committee no
later than 4 pm on August 20 in the year of application.

Type
written cover letter of application, including a description
of the applicant’s school/community involvement and a
statement (max 250 words) outlining the applicant’s career
goals and the reasons why he/she is interested in his/her
chosen field of study.

Copy
of the Transcript of grade 12 marks.
-
Copy
of the letter of acceptance by the post-secondary institute
that the applicant is or will be attending.
NOTE - Proof of payment of
fees to post secondary institute will be required from the
scholarship recipient.
Applications should be sent
to the chair of The Lloydminster Bi-Provincial Chapter of ASET /
SASTT. The name and address for the current chair are available
by contacting the SASTT office.
Selection
Procedure
The Chapter Scholarship
Selection Committee will be responsible for the selection of the
successful candidate. At the discretion of the committee, an
interview may be requested to assist in the final selection. The
committee’s decision shall be final.
Administration
of the Scholarship

The
Lloydminster Bi-Provincial Chapter of ASET/SASTT will
administer the scholarship.

The
value of the Scholarship will be $500. From
time-to-time as resources permit and at the discretion of
the chapter, additional scholarships shall be awarded.

The
selection of the scholarship recipient shall be concluded in
anticipation of presentation of the scholarship at the
recipient’s scholarship presentation ceremonies typically
held in the fall. At the time of award, the student
will provide a receipt from the Institute indicating the
payment of fees.

The
scholarship shall be presented by a representative or
designate of The Lloydminster Bi-Provincial Chapter of
ASET/SASTT.

A
copy of the scholarship shall be posted on provincial
websites noted earlier.

Those
wishing to make donations to the scholarship fund may do so
by directing their funds to the Chair of the Lloydminster
Bi-Provincial Chapter of ASET/SASTT.
Definitions
and Useful Information
-
ASET (The
Association of Science and Engineering Technology
Professionals of Alberta) is a non-profit organization that
issues C.Tech., C.E.T. and P.Tech.(Eng.) credentials to
qualified technicians and technologists in Alberta and the
Territories.
-
SASTT (Saskatchewan Applied
Science Technologists and Technicians) is a non-profit
organization in Saskatchewan that issues the A.Sc.T. and
C.Tech. credentials to qualified technologists and
technicians in Saskatchewan. The SASTT website can be found
at www.sastt.sk.ca.

C.E.T.
(Certified Engineering Technologist) and A.Sc.T. (Applied
Sciences Technologist) and are professional designations
awarded to individuals by the provincial organization. To
achieve one of these credentials, a technologist must
graduate from a recognized two-year program (or equivalent)
and fulfill the requirements of the provincial
Registration/Certification Board, which includes a minimum
of two years of acceptable work experience. They must also
provide professional references and pass a professional
practice exam.

C.Tech.
(Certified Technician) is a professional designation awarded
to individuals by the provincial organizations. To achieve
this credential, a technician must graduate from a
recognized one-year program (or equivalent) and fulfill the
requirements of the Registration/Certification Board, which
includes a minimum of two years of acceptable work
experience. They must also provide professional references
and pass a professional practice exam.

P.Tech.(Eng.)
is a professional credential geared toward members who have
reached a senior level within their field and have the right
to practice engineering independently within existing codes
and standards. Alberta is the only association in
Canada to implement this designation.
NOTE - There are many technology-related programs taught
at institutes and colleges in Alberta and Saskatchewan that
are not currently recognized. Graduates of these programs
are not automatically eligible for certification by ASET or
SASTT, as are the graduates of recognized programs.
Graduates from non-recognized programs may require
additional courses to be eligible for professional
certification. A list of currently recognized programs in
Alberta and Saskatchewan can be found on the ASET and SASTT
websites.

Recognized
Programs: ASET/SASTT does accept students attending
non-recognized programs, but students should be aware that
these programs may have elements missing that are normally
required for full professional certification. Additional
courses may be required after graduation in order to become
certified. The ASET or SASTT Registration/Certification
Board will determine which additional courses will be
required, if any.

Chapter
Attendance Area The ASET/SASTT Bi-Provincial Chapter is a
regional organization serving members of both provincial
organizations. The chapter’s area runs from Wainwright to
Onion Lake and Vegreville to Maidstone. For a full list of
all high schools in the chapter area, contact the chapter
chair.

scholarship may be revised from time-to-time. Check the ASET
