Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Act Receives Proclamation

Further to the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) Act being given Royal Assent in May 1997, the Act was finally proclaimed on October 20, 1998. Legal recognition for the applied science / engineering technology professional is now a reality. Among the major provisions of the Act are the following:

  • increase public protection through strict criteria in the registration of professional applied science / engineering Technologists and Technicians in Saskatchewan;

  • to provide improved disciplinary procedures to protect the public and protect member’s rights;

  • to recognize and protect the designation by which professional Applied Science Technologists and Certified Technicians are known;

  • the legal recognition of SASTT by an Act of the Legislature;

  • to improve the ability of the Association to govern its own affairs.

The SASTT Act will enable the Association to better serve the public and its members.

The Saskatchewan Legislature has given its official recognition to the practice of Applied Science / Engineering Technology by passing the SASTT Act. Applied Science Technologists (A.Sc.T.) and Certified Technicians (C.Tech.) are now legally recognized as a defined group of professionals.
