APPLICATION FORMS
The
Professional Practice Examination (PPE)
Prior
to registration as a professional A.Sc.T.
or C.Tech. in the
Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists or Technicians (SASTT),
applicants are required to successfully complete the
Professional Practice Examination with a passing mark of 80%.
The cost of the examination and required materials are
included in the admission / assessment fees.
Upon receipt of the applicable fee, the exam and all
materials required to prepare for the exam will be mailed to
the applicant.
The
objective of the Professional Practice Examination is to ensure
applicants have an understanding of their professional ethical
responsibilities.
The
exam will include questions on the following:

SASTT Act
-
SASTT Administrative and Regulatory Bylaws
-
SASTT Code of Ethics
This
exam is not required for enrollment as an Associate Member.
The exam will not be returned to the applicant.

ASSOCIATE
MEMBERSHIP
|
|
To
be eligible for Associate Membership, you must meet the
following criteria:
- Minimum educational qualifications:
Complete Grade XII, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry
and physics (chemistry for chemical applicants
only) or other certificates of equivalent standing;
OR
- Diploma / Certificate in an applied science /
engineering technology program from a recognized
program.

GRADUATES
OF A RECOGNIZED PROGRAM
(Applied
Science Technologist / Certified Technician)
|
|
This
application form is for individuals who hold
a Diploma or Certificate from an applied science or engineering technology
program
that has been recognized by SASTT.
A
registered professional member is one who has met both the
required academic, and experiential qualifications established
by SASTT's Registration Board.
Use
this application if you:

wish
to apply as a new applicant
-
are
in the military and wish to become a registered
SASTT member
-
wish
to apply for reclassification (Associate
to Registered Member)
-
wish
to apply for reclassification (Technician
to Technologist)
Applied
Science Technologist: Shall hold a diploma in
an applied science or engineering technology
program
that has been recognized by SASTT OR a recognized applied science / engineering
technology program from a Saskatchewan technical institute or
equivalent courses from other recognized institutions, or
satisfactory completion of examinations established by the
SASTT's Examination Board; and provide
evidence that he/she has a minimum of two years progressive,
work-related experience in their field of academic training.
The applicant's experience shall be evaluated in accordance
with the
Profile of an Applied Science Technologist
and guidelines established by SASTT's Registration Board.
Certified
Technician: Shall hold a certificate in an applied science or engineering technology
program
that has been recognized by SASTT OR a recognized applied science / engineering
technology program from a Saskatchewan technical institute or
equivalent courses from other recognized institutions, or
satisfactory completion of examinations established by SASTT's Examination Board; and provide
evidence that he/she has a minimum of two years progressive,
work-related experience in their field of academic training.
The applicant's experience shall be evaluated in accordance
with the
Profile of a Certified Technician and
guidelines established by SASTT's Registration Board.

MEMBERSHIP
TRANSFER
|
|
If
you are a registered member in good standing in your current
Association and are moving to, or working in, another
province, you may qualify for a transfer of membership.
When
transferring membership to SASTT, applicants will be required
to submit a detailed job description signed and dated by their
current supervisor.
PLEASE
NOTE: Membership categories such as
Associate, Student, Life, Honorary, etc. are not transferable.
RECLASSIFICATION
AND EXAMINATION PROGRAMS FOR CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS ARE NOT
TRANSFERABLE.

REACTIVATION
OR REINSTATEMENT OF PREVIOUS MEMBERSHIP |
|
Reactivation
of Membership: A
former member who has resigned and is not
indebted to the Association may apply for reactivation
of membership provided he / she applies for reactivation of
membership within one (1) year of his /
her initial resignation, provided all current
membership requirements are met.
Any
former member seeking reactivation after
more than one (1) year will be treated as a new
applicant, having his / her qualifications assessed against
current requirements.
Reinstatement of Membership: If a person ceases to be a
member by reason of his or her failure to pay any required fee
prior to the deadline date established by the Board of
Directors, the fee for reinstatement as a member:
-
where
the application for reinstatement is made during the same
calendar year, is an amount equal to the fees that should
have been paid in that year plus a penalty in the amount
of 15% of those fees;
-
where
the application for reinstatement is made in a subsequent
calendar year, is an amount equal to the fees that should
have been paid in respect of the year in which the person
ceased to be a member, and the current year's fees, plus a
penalty fee in an amount equivalent to that of the
application fee of a new member.
Any
member removed or expelled from
the register may, upon application within
one (1) year of removal or expulsion, be reinstated to
membership upon payment of outstanding dues, assessments, and
charges, including current reinstatement fees, provided all
current membership requirements are met.
Any
former member seeking reinstatement after
more than a one (1) year lapse of membership will be
treated as a new applicant, having his or her qualifications
assessed against the current Canadian Technology
Standards. When such an application for reinstatement is
made in a subsequent calendar year, the fees payable shall be
in the amount equal to the fees that should have been paid in
respect of the year in which the person ceased to be a member,
and the current year's fees, plus a penalty fee in an amount
equivalent to that of the registration of a new member.

LIFE
MEMBERSHIP
|
|
Life
Membership may be awarded to members who have given
exceptional and meritorious service to the
Association or members who have completely retired
from employment and meet specific criteria as
outlined in Association policy. Life
membership does not include those who have left
applied science technology and are working in other
fields. Life members are required to advise
SASTT in writing upon returning to employment.
Life
members shall be entitled to all the rights of
registered professional members but shall be exempt
from payment of annual fees, other than chapter
fees, and subject to all other provisions of SASTT
Bylaws and Association policies.
A
member who has been designated by the Board of
Directors as a Life Member is not required to pay
the annual membership fee (described in subsection
15.1 (1)(a) SASTT Administrative Bylaws) except
for the year in which
he or she retires.

Application Form & Criteria
RETIRED MEMBERSHIP
|
|
Retired
membership may be awarded to members who have
retired from the applied science and engineering
technology profession and meet specific criteria as
outlined in Association policy. Retired does
not include those who have left applied science or
engineering technology and are working in other
fields. Retired members are required to advise
SASTT in writing upon returning to employment in the
applied science or engineering technology
profession.
A
member who has been designated by the Board of
Directors as a Retired Member
shall
remit an annual fee of one-half
of the annual membership fee (as stated in
subsection 15.1(1)(a) SASTT Administrative Bylaws).

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR
MATURE APPLICANT STATUS
|
|
Special
Consideration is not an
"entry" application process. An
individual does not apply for Special Consideration
but is provided that "avenue" of
assessment upon recommendation of the Board of
Examiners following the normal review procedure of a
standard application for membership.
Special
consideration applicants must provide proof of their
equivalency as a Certified
Technician in the specific discipline being
sought.

UNEMPLOYED POLICY
|
|
The
Unemployed Policy was adopted in 1996 to allow for
reduced fees, that being approximately 40% of the
annual membership dues, for unemployed SASTT members
who are unable to pay the full fee due to
unemployment resulting from:
-
lack
of work
-
leave
from work to further education
-
health
reasons
-
family
leave (maternity, paternity, adoption)
-
any
other reason deemed appropriate by the President
and Executive Director.
Unemployed
members seeking employment would be allowed to use
their professional designation only when searching
for work where their designation was required or
preferred. Unemployed members participating under
this provision would not be able to hold a voting
seat on SASTT Board of Directors nor vote at the
Association’s annual or special meetings.
